There are just some songs that stick to you. When you hear those songs, their lyrics tug at your heartstrings and your brain wants to scream out "Yes, I know what you mean!" Lately, these are the lines that get to me. In my inability to articulate my recent sentiments, borrowing the words of others seems to be the next best thing. Below is my personal soundtrack of late. Read into it what you will.
You can't stay stagnant with the future that's approaching so,
Wherever you stand it's either break or be broken
Forget dry land I'd rather stand in the ocean and
Let the waves of devotion roll over me
- "Out of Control" by John Reuben
Album: The Boy Vs. The Cynic (2005)
The curtains can't hold back the lights
That's reaching into her dreams
Down in her heart
If it had fingers, it'd be tearing her apart.
- "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" by Mr.Big
Album: Lean Into It (1991)
Lord, I don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt
- "Lord (I don't know)" by Newsboys
Album: Adoration (2003)
It ain't much I'm asking if you want the truth
Here's to the future
Hear the cry of youth
I want it all...
- "I Want It All" by Queen
Album: The Miracle (1989)
Give me endless summer
Lord I fear the cold
Feel I'm getting old
Before my time
As my soul heals the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord I'm doing all I can
To be a better man
- "Better Man" by Robbie Williams
Album: Sing When You're Winning (2000)
I'm trying to make it in a world full of apathy
Asking God what else does he have for me
I'm timeless I'm beautiful mess
Through the joy through the pain
Through the worst and best
I'm timeless
- "Timeless" by L.A. Symphony
Album: Disappear Here (2005)
I need a getaway car, I gotta get out of here fast and far
I need a getaway car, I wanna flee what I see, wanna be where you are
I need a getaway car, I gotta get out of here fast and far
I need a getaway car
Now I ain’t gonna stop ‘till I find your peace
I gotta get to the place where it’s you and me
So fill’er up now, and let’s roll
Gonna drive through the night ‘till you touch my soul
Let’s ride all night, let’s shift this thing into overdrive
- "Getaway Car" by Toby Mac
Album: Welcome To Diverse City (2004)
