A Peaceful Revolution.
I was 10 when the first EDSA revolution occurred in the Philippines to oust President Marcos, a dictator who plundered the wealth of the nation to fatten up his own coffers.
Watching things unfold in Iraq and the chaotic looting just made me realize why people referred to ours as "a peaceful revolution." Only after 16 years of our own bout with a mad man did I understand what that meant.
We didn't need another country or a coalition to liberate us; the common people did. Our military didn't run and hide in shame; they boldly accepted their defeat and knew how to acknowledge that they were wrong by helping achieve the goal of the people. Our people were euphoric of being free of a theif and a robber; but we didn't turn around and loot the country the same way he did as payback.
In a matter of days the Philippines had a new government installed, peace and order was established throughout the city. That truly was a peaceful revolution. What we did with that afterwards is another story....
